An etiological ending
An etiological ending explains why the world is as it is, usually in a single last sentence: why the sea is salt, why the turtle goes to the warm sea, or why a creature wears the coat it wears. The story hands the reader the present day as it closes, and sometimes invites them to go and see for themselves.
